New Hampshire Senate Kills Bills That Would Ban Out-of-State Trash From Landfills

Citing concerns about the state’s capacity to manage waste and potential related legal challenges, New Hampshire’s Senate has killed a handful of proposed bills intended to ban out-of-state trash from entering our landfills. The state currently accepts a huge amount of trash from other states, as neighboring communities increasingly place more stringent restrictions on the kinds of solid waste their landfills will accept. In a statement, supporter of the bill Donovan Fenton (D-Keene) said that he feared that without such legislation in place, New Hampshire would “become the trash magnet for all of New England.”
